Census Information
We are currently starting the process to update the Tribal Census. The Census basically
identifies all of our Tribal Members, their correct addresses, etc. All of the tribes across the
country are doing the same thing. The Census update will be in 2010, since this project is
so important we will be starting immediately.
Why is the Census so important? By having a correct number of Tribal Members and contact information on file, this helps our funding levels with the federal government. It also helps us to communicate effectively with all Tribal
Members. Our last Census was done in 2000 and unfortunately we only received credit for
having about 1,400 Tribal Members accounted for. This hurt our Tribe's funding levels
through Congress. We have over 2,700 Tribal Members, so I ask that all of you please help
us get accurate addresses and contact information. You may click here to download a change of address form.
Also, it is very important that when you complete information about yourself, that you check that you are Native American or American
Indian. Many people who are Indian check that they are white; this does not help Tribal
funding levels, nor does it help you. Please make sure that you tell your family members to
be sure to check the right box, BECAUSE YOU ARE NATIVE AMERICAN! Tribal
representatives will be contacting you soon. Please contact Jason Harris, Melissa
Funderburk, or Donna Curtis regarding this project.
